Behind Closed Doors: How Publishers Really Work and Why
An evening with Laurent Linn, Senior Designer for Henry Holt Books

pictures

For many writers and illustrators, no matter how experienced, the inner
workings of a publishing house are mysterious. How are books acquired
and illustrators chosen? Why does it take so long for books to get
published? How are they designed and who has the final say on the cover
design? All these questions and more will be answered as we go behind
the scenes of creating children’s books.

Laurent Linn began his career as a puppet designer in Jim Henson's Muppet Workshop.
With the Muppets for 11 years, he became the Creative Director for Sesame Street, winning an Emmy Award.
At Holt, Laurent collaborates with noted editors, authors, and illustrators on picture books, middle-grade books, and teen novels.
Also an artist, he has illustrated numerous picture books.
